DESCRIPTION

The Top Shelf Handlebar raises your position by 50 or 70mm (2 or 2.75in) to give you an ultra-comfortable upright riding position and easy reach to the drops. It features the same backsweep, flare and compact drop as our best-selling Kitchen Sink Handlebars, so you can stay comfortable and in control no matter the terrain.

The patent-pending design features a unique double-bar construction, which allows for easy, secure mounting of bags and accessories. Configure the perfect set-up for anything from an afternoon gravel adventure to an epic multi-day bikepacking trip.

KEY Handlebar Features:

  • RISE - 50 or 70mm (2 or 2.75in) of rise creates a more upright and comfortable riding position without the use of a highly angled stem or excessive headset spacers. This allows riders to achieve a more upright, relaxed fit while maintaining traditional drop-bar bike geometry.
  • CONTROL - Take advantage of the drops. The higher positioning of the drops provides a comfortable and secure hand position, giving you control to navigate rough terrain and steep descents. This keeps your body weight centered, while reducing neck and back strain.
  • BACKSWEEP - 7° degrees of backsweep orients the bar where your hands want to be. Whether you're on the flats, the hoods, or the drops, you’re getting an ergonomic position for your most epic gravel rides.
  • FLARE - 25° degrees of flare and a compact drop means a stable, aerodynamic drop position that is actually comfortable enough to use on your longest gravel ride or your next bikepacking trip.
  • FULL RANGE OF WIDTHS -  41, 44, 47, 50, and 53cm widths.
  • STORAGE - the unique double-bar construction provides room for all of your bar-mounted accessories. Mount handlebar bags (like our custom-fitted Top-Shelf Handlebar Bag which is now available) securely, without flopping around like they do on a standard handlebar.
  • Perfect for road, gravel, bikepacking, and commuting.

Why are Your Riser Handlebars Flared?

Our handlebars are designed to seek a balance between the traditional wide flat bars which offer stability and control over rough terrain and the comfort and speed of road bike drop bar position without sacrificing control. The Top Shelf Handlebars are flared in the drops to give the rider a stable and more controllable riding position that is essential for gravel biking terrain. This combination of comfort and control allows you to ride longer, further and faster and is especially well-suited to long distance multi-day, week or even months long bikepacking rides.

Handlebar Accessories

To get even more comfort and performance out of your Top Shelf Handlebar, add the ergonomic Cruise Control Grip System. The Top Grips provide an incredibly comfortable position at the tops by expanding the bar and giving you a wide area to rest your hands. And the Drop Grips give you an extra comfortable position while in the drops through an ergonomic style grip that helps spread load over your hands so you can stay in your tuck all day.

Top it all off with some of our Really Long Bar Tape which is specifically designed to be long enough to wrap even the widest gravel handlebar. Oh and it's super comfortable with just the right amount of grip.

Finally, the New Top Shelf Handlebar Bag (available now) is custom-designed with top and bottom straps to attach rigidly to the dual bar construction, and reinforced side panels support all of your gear without sagging or bouncing. The bag features a self-closing, magnetically secured top lid that is designed for easy single-handed access, even while riding. Add a bike computer mount (compatible with Garmin and Wahoo computers), that sits on top of the bag in an ideal location just in front of the stem.

+FAQ

Can I clamp to the upper cross bar on the TSHB?

Yes, the cross bar is designed so you can clamp accessories to it, or use it as an alternative stem clamping position. The diameter of the cross bar is 25.4mm so you will need to use a shim if your stem is the standard 31.8mm size.

You can choose between a 50 or 70mm (2 or 2.75in) to give you an ultra-comfortable upright riding position and easy reach to the drops. We think wider is better. Particularly when riding off-road, the additional leverage and stability afforded by the wider handlebars dramatically improve handling and control, especially while descending and climbing.

If you're used to riding with a typical road bike drop bar width (38-46cm), we recommend matching your width or even trying a wider bar - the difference in effective arm angle is negligible, but the effect on control and comfort can be dramatic. In addition, if your current bar has little or no flare at the drops, we suggest going one size up because the hoods will end up being slightly tilted inward on a flared bar so the actual width a the hoods will be slightly less than the “width” of the bar. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

I love these handlebars!

I had been getting really bad elbow pains, and a friend pointed out that my stock handlebars looked way too narrow. When I measured, I realized they were much narrower than I should be using. I looked at a bunch of flared gravel bike bars, but decided to go with these, because I wouldn’t need a riser or anything. I have found these to be the most comfortable handlebars I’ve ever used. Eliminated not only my elbow pain, but also wrist and neck pain. And they look cool! I’m super happy with them.

Top shelf handlebar 44cm/50cm

The bars are great. They do exactly what they were made for. Put me in a much more comfortable position for the long rides. Took a lot of stress off my upper back and neck, which is a problem now that I am in my mid 60s. Great idea and great product. Thank you.

Just what I was looking for

Bought these bars to go on my carbon-frame endurance bike hoping to improve overall riding comfort. Not looking for performance or conformity with what is "in style", looking for a more upright riding position and a wider grip stance to help alleviate shoulder/neck pain on longer rides, as well as hand numbness issues. And yes, I've been fitted to my bike more than once, but do suffer from "Life" and wear and tear from 50+ years of riding, and much abuse of my back, neck and shoulders. FWIW, I'm 6'1", 49" chest and about 230# and ride 3-5 mornings a week, 22 to 30 mile average distance. Ordered the taller and widest bars, along with both of the padded add-on grip pad sets. Bars arrived and look well made. Fit and finish is top-notch. Found the on-line installation guides and set them up with my best guess as to how to place the grip pads. Adjusted my seat position slightly as well to accommodate the change in body position. I have about 325 miles on the bars and find them to do what I wanted and expected them to do. The upright pedaling position does relieve strain on my neck and back, and the wider bars allow my shoulders to work at a much more normal position than the previous bars (they were about 3" narrower at the hoods). The outward cant to the drops allows my hands to rest at a much more natural angle than traditional straight-bent drops. The padded bar grips make for a larger contact patch with my hands/palms, and has reduced hand discomfort and numbness, although at least some of that must be from the more upright body position and less weight on my hands. If I ride down on the drops my position is now very similar to where I was at on the original bars with my hands at the top outer corners. The center of the top bar did provide more than ample space for mounting accessories, in my case a GPS/Computer. I've added the newly available Top Shelf bag and mount and have the computer mounted on the bag-top, which works better than I expected. I ordered the extra-long bar tape set with the bars and used it on initial installation. The tape is very good, really sticks and stays in place, and is grippy. However....I suggest you buy a few rolls of cheap bar tape and use it on initial installation as you may, like me, want to experiment with your placement of the hood/brake levers as well as the rotation of the bar pads on both the drop ends and corners of upper bar, and save the very good but pricey Redshift Extra-Long tape for installation once you have finalized placement of the hoods/pads. As for looks (seemingly a VERY BIG concern for many), they look just fine to me when I am riding, and unlike with my original drop bars, I don't spend most of my riding time looking down at them due to body position and can actually look up and around and enjoy the view. I've had several friends see them and take my bike for a test ride with positive feedback. Would I buy them again? Absolutely! Are they for everybody, probably not. If you want/need a more upright and wider riding position and definitely more comfortable hand position these do the trick, especially with the bar pads If you are a competitive roadie, or concerned about looking like a pro-rider, maybe not for you.
