What is a Suspension Seatpost?
A suspension seatpost is a specially designed bicycle seatpost featuring shock absorbing construction that helps smooth out bumps in the terrain and reduce the impact to the rider. They are best suited for gravel biking and bikepacking applications but are also used on road bikes to help riders stay in the saddle through rough roads.
The Shockstop suspension seatposts feature a proprietary parallelogram design, which allows for the suspension to remain active even when you're seated and pedaling. This means that you can benefit from the suspension's smoothing effect even when you're putting down power, unlike some suspension seatposts that become rigid when you're pedaling. For an ultralight, race-tuned version, choose the ShockStop PRO Suspension Seatpost.
The minimal design of the ShockStop Suspension Seatpost blends seamlessly with the aesthetic of modern gravel, road, and e-bikes. Along with the ShockStop Suspension Stem, this suspension system works together to reduce fatigue and strain, letting you ride farther, faster, and more comfortably.

Different bikes sometimes have different seatpost diameters. The ShockStop Suspension Seatpost comes in 27.2mm diameter, so if your bike's seatpost is a different size, you'll need a shim to allow the 27.2mm size to adapt to your bike's frame. Don't worry though, the shims are super-lightweight and essentially invisible once installed.
Not sure what size seatpost you have currently? There are a couple different ways to find out.
• Most seatposts have the diameter printed somewhere near the bottom of the post. You'll need to remove the seatpost from the bike frame (mark your existing seatpost height with a bit of tape before you remove it so you can replace it easily), and look for a number like 27.2, 30.9, or 31.6 (etc.). That is the diameter of the post.
• If you know the make, model, and year of your bike, you may be able to look up the seatpost diameter online. Feel free to shoot us an email at info@redshiftsports.com - we'll see if we can help out.
• Ask your local bike shop - they'll be able to accurately measure your bike's seatpost.
Non-compatible posts: Unfortunately, if your bike's seatpost is smaller than 27.2mm (for example, the 25.4mm posts found on some recent model Cannondale Synapses) our seatpost is currently not compatible with your bike. Likewise, if you have a bike with an aero/oval/non-round seatpost, or if your bike has an integrated seatmast, the seatpost is also not compatible.
What length should I choose? 280mm or 350mm?
Measure your current seatpost from the clamp collar to the saddle rail:
- If that distance is less than 205mm, you can use the 280mm suspension seatpost.
- If it is between 205mm and 250/275mm (depending on diameter) order the 350mm size.

I hesitated buying this stem wondering would it work, was it a waste of money but I’ve had three off road rides with my new stem and I love it. I usually get pins and needles in my hands after riding for a while but that’s gone now. Added to the comfort is the improved handling on bumpy tracks and roads. I just finished my first ride with the Resdhift Shockstop Suspension Stem and I noticed the difference immediately. It’s a beautifully engineered piece of kit that does what it says - stops the shock! When I step back on one of my other bikes (without Shockstop), I notice myself subconsciously bracing with my legs as I go over bumps to try and absorb the shock. Not so with the ShockStop - just ride over them and it takes them out! Fantastic product.
